Hotels merge to create Super Hotel in Manila

Best Western has merged three properties in Manila to create what it calls, a super hotel.

The firm has named the hotel the Best Western Plus Antel, and its creation involved the merger of former hotels, Best Western Antel Spa Suites, Best Western The A Venue Suites, and Best Western Plus Serenity Suites. The new development has seen the three buildings joined by an added structure on the fifth floor. The addition has much to offer customers, including a resort-type pool, a pool bar and a children’s playground.

The hotel said that rooms, lobbies and other areas have not changed much, even though amenities have been upgraded to the standard of the Plus line.

The hotel said that it would continue with the usual offerings such as breakfast, complimentary Internet, free local calls and in-room coffee and tea makers. In addition the hotel will now offer better bath products, in-room fridge, gym, and laundry and dry cleaning services. Corporate travellers can benefit from a more spacious work desk and a business centre.

The super hotel also features 210 non-smoking rooms with balconies as well as kitchenettes with refrigerators and microwaves. The long list of features includes eight function rooms, three lobby lounges, two restaurants, two swimming pools, two fitness centres, spa, games room, and a children’s playground etc.

The hotel also has event-management facilities that can host up to 120 delegates.

The hotel is situated in the Makati business and entertainment district of Manila. A spokesperson for the hotel said that the merging of resources has helped the hotel to provide better and more efficient services.

Best Western Acquires New Cleaning Technology for Hotels

Best Western International, a US-based hotel company, will be using new cleaning technology at its 2,100 Best Western hotels in North America.

The company is operating a new cleaning programme, I Care Clean, which will be using the advanced cleaning technology employed in hospitals to maintain a sanitised environment. The programme includes Ultra Violet (UV) sterilisation wands; UV inspection black lights; clean remote controls or wraps for remote control devices; single-use pillow and blanket wraps, and many other measures.

Ron Pohl, Best Western senior vice president brand management and member services, said, ‘A clean hotel is a basic expectation for guests and rightly so. We are unlocking the potential of the housekeeping profession by providing new tools and training to help ensure customer satisfaction, loyalty and ultimately trust. We believe this programme will help us do just that.

Through our consumer research, we found that no one hotel chain in the midscale category was recognised by consumers as being cleaner than others. This intrigued us, as we saw a real opportunity to lead the industry with advanced cleaning practices and recognised products. This program is our way of re-engineering housekeeping efforts to provide superior customer care to each and every one of our guests night in and night out.

We’ve seen that thorough cleaning between stays and then putting customers in charge of their housekeeping options during their stays results in a higher level of guest satisfaction.’

The company currently operates three levels of hotel in the UK, Best Western hotels, Best Western Plus hotels, and luxurious Best Western Premier hotels.

Best Western Falmouth Beach Hotel in Cornwall Destroyed in Fire

Best Western Falmouth Beach Hotel, a luxury hotel in Falmouth, Cornwall, UK, has been severely damaged in a fire which started early in the afternoon of April 29, 2012.

Around 100 fire fighters tackled the fire. There were no fatalities, and 30 guests were moved to safety. The fire had started on the third floor of the property, and strong winds caused it to spread rapidly through the building, destroying the infrastructure and causing the roof to cave in.

The 120-room hotel, one of the biggest in the area, was opened by the Evans family in 1984, and was acquired by Best Western International Inc, a US-based hotel company, in 2000.

The 30 hotel guests, including Blur guitarist, Graham Coxon, were moved to alternative accommodation in the town, and as a safety measure, the authorities also evacuated a neighbouring hotel.

A statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said, ‘There is nothing at this stage to suggest these guests have come to any harm, and it is likely they have gone out on day trips, but police would like these individuals to make themselves known to officers at the scene or to call police on 101 to confirm they are safe and well.’

The Mayor of Falmouth, Geoffrey Evans, said in an interview, ‘It’s right at the start of the holiday season, we’ve got the Olympic Torch coming in a few weeks, and the Finn Cup (a sailing competition) as well, so I don’t know how this is going to affect accommodation. I think the hotel was fully booked, so to lose such a prominent hotel at this time of the year is a complete disaster.’
