Gatwick launches first passenger app, other initiatives for seamless travel experience

Gatwick Airport has announced the launch of a new app offering passengers a range of information and services directly on their mobile phones for a more seamless experience when travelling through the airport.

The new app will offer holidaymakers and business travellers a range of features including personalised flight information, offering real-time updates on flight status and gate information directly on mobile phones enabling passengers to enjoy their time at the airport without having to search for flight information screens; real-time queue updates for hassle-free check-in and security; intuitive maps guiding passengers through the airport using 2,000 navigation beacons located throughout terminal buildings, as well as shopping and eating offers specific to the traveller’s terminal, which are instantly redeemable from the phone.

The free app also offers information extending beyond use in the terminal buildings, including, real-time road and rail travel information, a facility to book Official Gatwick Parking, a ‘Where’s my car?’ feature to store their parking location, passenger pick-up and drop-off information as well as information on services across the airport.

The new app is one of the several passenger-facing digital innovations coming on stream as part of Gatwick’s ‘digital transformation’ programme. Other initiatives to go live soon at the airport include advanced chat bots, augmented reality wayfinding and the airport-wide use of the Internet of Things.

The new app is available to download from both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
